Received phone call today and left message. Could hardly understand the lady. Such a strong accent. English is not her primary or second language. I know it is a scam. IRS or any collection agency will contact through mail first.
This is the message I received on voice mail: "Hello this call is from Federal IRS. That's Internal Revenue Service. The very second you receive this message. I need you or your retained attorney off record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive to. This is Officer David Morgan and my number is 2026004440. Again it's 2026004440. Now don't try to disregard this message and do return the call. If you don't return the call. What if I don't hear from your attorney either the only thing I can do is wish you good luck as..." (this gentleman(?) talked with an Indian accent) I was sure it was a scam as I had read in the USA TODAY that phone scams were prevalent but they described themselves as law enforcement & demanded money for trumped-up charges they say they owe. They were able to somehow manipulate caller ID to make the number appear to come from the local sheriff's office or jail. One woman, in Georgia I believe, paid them $1550. She was told to pay by wiring them through Western Union or buying a prepaid credit card like Green Dot & registering it online. Confirm this info on USA TODAY WEEKEND, August 9 - 11, 2013 Section B - 1.
