I just received a call from this number. They left a message saying "congratulations member" and stating that I had been "approved" for a credit card and to call back to activate the card. I suspect a scam, but either way I am registered on the national do not call list and have been for at least a good month and probably two.
No need to bother the IRS, it's a definite scam. The hallmarks are demanding payment today via an untraceable payment method or the feds will be at your door shortly. The IRS does not operate in this manner. Payment issues are always addressed initially my mail and they would never make these type of outrageous demands. There is even a thread in the general section of the forum addressing this issue:
DO NOT fall for these guys they are scammers! They pretend to be the IRS, any law enforcement, mortgage, bank...etc...DO NOT give out any information and especially fall for their scare tactics....DO NOT give them any money! HANG UP and report them to the real agency and the FBI.....these people are professional THIEVES! Thousands of people have been scammed! DO NOT listen to them hang up!
Just received a call from this number at 8:30pm ET on house phone. Caller ID shows as WSHNGTNZN 1DC. No one on other end...not even background noise. Just silence.
