This is Lisa from the original post above. Received a call at 10am EST on May 26th, 2015 from 202-836-8017. Again! Especially bizarre considering I have put this phone number on my rejection/blocked list! I double-checked it and yes, it's on there, so I don't know how it got through to ring me. I did not answer but there was a message, sounded like it could be a fax?? No one said anything just a weird sound. Definitely something fishy since my phone system didn't block it as it should have.
Same as above. Why can't the FCC crack down on these scammers? If you don't answer (which confirms a working number) they will call back until you do. Answer it and you are jeopardized just the same. Another reason to cut the landline!
I got a call from this number today as well. Sent to voice mail but naturally no message was left. Robo call. Our government tax dollars at work, they can't even minimally manage their donotcall.gov service(?)..
Well, let me ask a question in return.
What do YOU think the DNC list is supposed to do?
No fair reading the rest of this post before you answer!
The DNC list does not automatically block calls. Instead, it provides a list of "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.
The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations, charities, companies with preexisting business relationships, and some other organizations (such as debt collectors), but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).
The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
It can stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The first thing to do is buy a call blocker device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information.
If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
* Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
* Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
* If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scam" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.
I got a call from this number two days ago but didn't answer so I googled it and read other responses. Today they called again and when this Indian lady asked me to donate to the US Chamber of Commerce I asked her if she felt good about scamming people. Does it make her children proud. Does she sleep well at night knowing what she has done. Blew a whistle in her ear and she hung up. Idiots!
