It's a scam. They won't answer the phone until you try to put in the case number. Then you only get the first one or two numbers and they jump at getting to your call. It's a sick way to try to steal your money so PLEASE don't fall for it.
These people continually call and threaten me with a lawsuit. I am tired of the harassment from them. I picked up the phone one day and it was a woman stating the same. When I told her she was running a scam, the calls stopped for a month. Now, they are calling again with the recorded message stating that they will serve me with papers at my home or place of business. It's ridiculous that they can continue to get away with this!!!!!
I spoke with Century Link about 202-930-5562 and 414-882-2165. She told me there is a name for what these creepy callers do, "caller id spoofing". They are not even calling from this country even though in these two cases the numbers suggest Milwaukee and Washington DC areas. Her advice was to leave a message on voice mail that I am the victim of caller id spoofing and to leave number for me to call them back or to just turn off the voice mail altogether for a while. This may be enough to deter them. If this all does not work I am going to try changing our number. Failing that I will drop my land line. Sad that we are powerless against these interruptions.
You are not powerless. Invest in a call blocker. Also don't pick up on numbers you do not recognize, or where there are caller IDs that seem odd. Or where there is no caller ID.
Robo-caller states that they are notifying us of a complaint. No details whatsoever other than a file number. Then claims "You have been notified" and hangs up.
