Called back.....no answer. These calls are so aggravating. WHY are they allowed to call people on the Do Not Call List? I just don't answer unfamiliar numbers but have children who travel and worry it might be them. BUT have decided if it's important, they will leave a message.

The "Do Not Call" List is just that, a list. Calls generated by computers don't stop and check to see if a particular number is on a list. They just randomly dial numbers until the get an answer.
Only legitimate companies might take a look to check your number before they call. Charities and non-profits don't have to use the DNC list. So basically, that DNC list is worthless. Most spam calls aren't even calling from the number on the caller ID, so it's useless to report them.
This what I have done. I have all my landline calls forwarded to my cell phone. There are a number of apps you can put on your smart phone to help with spam calls.
If I don't recognize the number on caller ID, I press a button and it goes to voice mail. If they fail to leave a message with a callback number, I consider it spam. It is very easy to then block them. After I block them, it doesn't ring if they call back. It has drastically cut down on spam calls after a few months.
