I received an automated call telling me to return their call or I would be arrested by my local police because of a discrepency with my taxes. The automated message was recorded in poor English. When I called back he was rude and threatened me for interrupting him and said that I owe a 20,000 dollar fine because I didn't respond to some letter they sent in the mail.
This is the 2nd automated call from the "IRS." The first one stated I owe them money and to call back (a different # that I blocked). My accountant assured me the ITS doesn't make phone calls. They send certified letters. Today, this one called & left the partial message about having 4 violations & local law enforcement would be called to arrest me if I didn't call back. Blocking this one, too!
5 minutes ago I got a call from the "IRS" saying that there are serious IRS allegation against me and that I need to respond in 24hs or I will get visit from the sheriff to arrest me and put me behind bars. It got me concern the first few seconds because the IRS has the power to put people to jail for scamming them, which obviously I am not. Well, just saw this chain of comments and now I see it is a typical scam...
BAH HA HA HA!!!!!! I just received this call. I have no tax issues, and I am a law enforcement officer. If I don't respond within 24 hours I will have the local "cops" (not law enforcement agency) come and arrest me. Oh! No!!! :-O
Seriously, if anybody fell for this scam I would be surprised.
