Hello, thanks for all that info. It is very educating and useful. These guys called me also, saying that they work for Microsoft and my computer is full of viruses. They wanted me to give them remote access so they could get rid of all those 'viruses' for me. I kept the guy on the line for about 40 minutes, meanwhile reading about these types of calles on google. Anyway, this SCAM has been going on for 5 years, at least. The real problem is that they impersonate a legit company, a real tech support that helps people.
If you or anyone gets a call from so called 'tech support' don't give them access to your computer. They will try to convince you that your PC is full of malicious software, trojans, etc... by telling you, step by step, how to get to "windows Events Viewer", and when you are in there, the caller will point out that you have lots and lots of errors and warnings (with red and yellow exclamation marks). They will tell you that unless you give them access, your computer will break down in a matter of days. This isn't true. Well, most of the time it isn't true :) . Anyway, check it out yourselves on google, the website that they tell you to type in a number so they can get remote access is legit, but they use it to get your personal info. The site they want you to access is this - https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/Customer/Code.aspx
Read more about it online, here is an article called "Cyber Criminals just Came A Callin' at my House" -

I've gotten at least 3 robocalls from this #..hung up the first couple of times w/o listening to the spiel. It's getting tedious..guess DoNotCall list is worthless.
Still using my whistle and these calls have definitely slowed down. I often wonder how long it takes for the ringing in their ear to stop........oh well, live and learn......................
