Just got one of these calls. It may be the same that I already reported because I am on the national and California do-not-call lists. In any case, I will report it again (when they fix the #$#%&^!! web site!).
OK-- I figured this particular one out. These slime bags are looking at data bases from services like CarFax which keep track of automotive warranty expirations. It's exactly three years since my car was first registered (and it has extended warranty but of course, these a-wipes don't know that). I've gotten three calls from these dumber-than-mold types so far and I've reported them all to the FTC *and* the FCC.
Got a yesterday from this number. Caller says he was from the Obama campaign and asked for $300.00 to help the effort. Called did NOT know the initials "DNC"; nor did he know that where, everyone votes using the absentee ballot system. After my saying NO several times, he then asked for half the $$ to save America.
Above poster may be right in thinking that its related to car warranty databases, as my base warranty has just expired as well. My car is a GM (Pontiac); it's possible that they have sold their customer information to a third party/data miner.
Incidentally, if I don't answer the call, it shows up in my missed call history as 44-207-412-1069, which (I think) means that it is coming from Great Britain.
I'm not real interested in calling them back, but for everyone claiming that the number is not in service, try dialing overseas with the 44 and seeing if you get connected.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and Click. Next time, I am going to go to my computer and start tracking the call and then calling my represenative. Want to play hardball with me, I will play even harder right back at you.
