The Junior Fuhrers at Homo Land Security and their pals in the tele-cons have been messing with the matrix for a couple of weeks. Congress is still waiting for more payoffs from ATT before they pass that bill - but Homo Security don't trust no one that threatens come between them and our money. It may have been a spoof to read memory (or set a switch) in your cell phones firm ware.
Watch your phone bill - or call your providers business office. Pressing one to talk to an agent may actually charge your cell for some fly by night, 5$/second phone exchange service.
Which brings us to the ruse of the need to ease drop on cell phone conversations from cell phones of known boogie-men Emanuel Goldstein (Orwell 1984) hate rant poster boy terrorists - anybody who has walked through a mall and seen the cell phone kiosks probably knows that any high schooler can clone any cell phone number in just a few strokes of the button pad. Sometimes, patriotism requires we invent terrorists (and their cell phone numbers).
It may surprise you to know that one foreign owned company controls the entire US Cell System - and - should you know the history of lax data custody by companies flagged by that country - then your cell phone slam is not so surprising. The company is COMVERSE and it is flagged in Israel. If you remember the millions of banking transactions lost through a company called "Check Point", be reminded that company too is Israeli flagged (kind of like the Pollards of Global Corporatism). The SONY BMG root kit - manufactured by Israelis - the fire wall that calls home, "Zone Alarm", made in Israel and the discovery of a blank superuser password for our national security network is not so surprising when you learn that our government networks and NSA listening posts are all maintained by Israeli companies, PTECH and MITRE. I just recieved a call from that number on my cel phone around 10 am on saturday. The many numbers on my caller id caught my attention and i thought i was getting a call out of the country. A recording stated my car warrenty was expiring and to press 1 to speak to an agent or 2 to disconnect. when i pressed 1 to inquire how they got my number, a rep introduced himself cel (could not clearly catch his name) and ask for my car make and model. At that point i stated i was wondering why my number was called since i dont own a car, even though i do. Before i realized, the rep hung up! i looked up the international code and also noticed it was from UK.
