Just got a call from a Mr. Shaun White who claimed he was from the US Department of Treasury, Legal Affairs. He claimed there was law enforcement pending under my name.He wanted to know who my attorney is and I asked him why. Told me I had been sent papers about a case but I replied I have not gotten anything. He sounded surprised and then said I had to speak to an inspector Smith to find out the charges. I was advised to call him at the same number he was calling from. I hung up and figured this is nothing but a scam. I had a similar type call years ago and that was certainly a scam. Mr. White had an Indian accent. I surely won't be calling anyone back based on my attorney's advice and will be filing complaints with the FTC and state attorney general. Hope people will not fall for this and report it to the authorities.
I received a call today from a man with a very thick Indian type accent. He told me he was calling from the Department of Legal Affairs and papers were sent to me at my home address, did I receive them? I responded no and started laughing, as I knew he scamming. He said there are legal actions pending against me and that I need to call Justin Murphy at 209-690-7397. I ask him why is he calling me to tell me to call someone else, that it didn't make sense and I started laughing again. Well....he hung up on me. The IRS website clearly states they are aware of the scam and will always send you a letter and never call. So, these scammers must have caught on to that hence why they are telling people they mailed papers. My question is, technology is so far along these days if there is a phone number that these people are using for a while, why can't the legal system trace it and take action?
I had a message on my land line from this # advising me to call them back regarding a very serious matter, almost in a threatening tone of voice. The person was male with an Indian accent and I couldn't understand his name but he said he was from the Dept of Legal Affairs for the US Treasury. They called me again right after leaving the message so I answered mostly out of curiosity. He gave me the same # to call back and to ask for Glen Barnes. I asked him why I should call the same # back, couldn't he transfer me. He said I had to call back, he wasn't completely sure what it was regarding but of a very serious legal nature. So we hung up and I called back asking for Glen Barnes, it sounded like the same person I had just spoken with but he said he was Inspector Steven Smith, Glen Barnes' superior. He also said his badge # was 49256 when I confirmed his name. He said I owed back property taxes, a lien was being placed against my house, and since I didn't respond to their letter that was hand delivered (?), a warrant for my arrest was going to be issued the moment we got off of the phone. When I told him this sounded bogus he became very angry and he eventually hung up on me. I called right back again and it rang then went to a voicemail message of a female with an Indian accent. So I called back again and the same guy answered. I asked him why I was asked to call regarding my supposed legal matter/issue and was hung up on when I asked for specifics. And why a division of the Federal Government is coming after me when property taxes are handled by individual counties. And again, very rude and belligerent with me. He tried to tell me then that I owed back property taxes and federal income taxes from 2012 in an amount around $4,000.00. He kept saying I was going to be arrested and that I better get a criminal lawyer. And that I better get in contact with a good CPA. He also said that the state of Nevada has a no tolerance for crime policy. I asked how would he know when he's in California working for a Federal Government Institution. He kept getting indignant about my laughing but how could I not laugh when he sounded like that cartoon character from the Simpson's. Seriously
