I got a call from 210 - 280 - 8487. I am in the 225 area code. He kept asking about my computer so I told him I didn't have one. I think its a scam to try to get on your computer to steal your information
March 2015 and these calls are still ongoing. We get about 4-6 spam calls DAILY, despite NOT answering most of them, and BLOCKING the numbers after each new one shows up. Unfortunately, I made the mistake answering THIS one, without looking it up first. I thought I could intimidate them into stopping, or at least cutting DOWN on the number of these calls by answering "Criminal Call Investigation Bureau; Investigator Smith; this call is being recorded."
It was a Prerecorded message from "Ann" that started immediately upon picking up the phone; and was a variation on the 'Rachel' calls for "lowered interest." I then made the mistake of pressing '4' to 'speak to representative.' Got connected to "David Jones" (with an Indian accent so heavy I couldn't understand 'Jones' until he spelled it! and with LOUD BOILER ROOM background noise.) He was not 'intimidate-able.' He kept saying "YOU pressed 4", as if that gave them the right to call in the first place. Claimed his 'company name' was "Card Services" and that they 'worked for' Visa and Mastercard. He claimed they were in "Dallas, Texas" (which is HUNDREDS of miles away from Antonio and a COMPLETELY different area code!), but he was 'not allowed to disclose a street address.' (I didn't know that until I looked it up later, so didn't confront him on that.) The only thing that got him to end the call was when I told him this was a CRIMINAL call; it was ILLEGAL to cold call telemarket.
So, now I'm sure I'll get HUNDREDS more of these calls. SO SICK of this. We BLOCK new numbers almost daily; have TWO call blockers/banks and are nearly out of number space. I file a government complaint after each and every one of these calls, but they just keep coming. Just wish I hadn't picked a number with 73 PAGES of complaints on 800Notes to start trying to fight back!
This is just another variation on the tired old ***CREDIT CARD "Lower Interest Rate" PHISHING SCAM***.
Just received a call from this number, and we have 760 area code... I just don't pick up when its a phone # I don't recognize, but I do check the number online, like I did with this one - thanks for the info!
