I got a phone call from this number from a woman who identified herself as "Yolanda" something. She said she was calling from USAA about a transaction that could not be made on one of my accounts due to a mismatch between the money (an IRA rollover from Putnam) and the type of receiving account. When I asked her for an account number so I could figure out what she was talking about, she read me a long number that had nothing to do with my USAA accounts. When I asked her about it, she then said it was the Putnam number. I hung up and called USAA. After two phone calls, numerous referrals within the company and about two hours they could not identify any Yolanda there, any sign that a USSA representative had been looking at my account, or any possible reason for this call. I can only assume that this call was an attempted fraud. USAA's fraud team was investigating it.
call today from this number -- my caller ID showed: Texas - 210-456-1815
no one answered when I said hello, couple of clicks, open line, then a guy
said, "USAA may I help you? " I said, "You called me, what do you want?"
He said, "We are just calling to see if you need to make any changes to
your spouses policies" and I said, "No we don't", he said, "it has been about
3 years and sometimes things change and you need to update your policies"
to which I replied, "Nothing has changed, no updates needed." He thanked
me, said to call if we needed anything and hung up. I believe these people
are trying to get account info -- USAA does not call it's policy holders like
that - you have to contact them and request the the service, they will sent you a letter in the mail but never call you so please be careful what you
tell these callers.
I was getting the same call from 210-456-1815 on my cell repeatedly. I would say hello & no one would answer. Seeing this post I called USAA myself (I have a credit card with them) & spoke with their fraud department. After speaking with several people they verified the call I was getting was legit. The phone call is really from USAA - dealing with auto insurance. I use to have auto insurance with them. (They were looking to get me back.) I'm now on their do not call list for offers.
