I got a phone call from this number from a woman who identified herself as "Yolanda" something. She said she was calling from USAA about a transaction that could not be made on one of my accounts due to a mismatch between the money (an IRA rollover from Putnam) and the type of receiving account. When I asked her for an account number so I could figure out what she was talking about, she read me a long number that had nothing to do with my USAA accounts. When I asked her about it, she then said it was the Putnam number. I hung up and called USAA. After two phone calls, numerous referrals within the company and about two hours they could not identify any Yolanda there, any sign that a USSA representative had been looking at my account, or any possible reason for this call. I can only assume that this call was an attempted fraud. USAA's fraud team was investigating it.
Got a call from 210-456-1815. Voicemail left indicated from USAA (I am a member). They were wanting to do a financial review. As far as I could tell, seemed legit, if unsolicited.
My take on this is, ALL phone numbers are legit in being that they are indeed a real phone number.
Now wether or not someone is calling from a cell phone with a fake caller I.D. is
Another story. Sure You can call USAA and ask them if its their number and they will say YUP.
Then a fraud committer can take that same number and obtain critical and confidential
Insurance info from you, just because they took USAA's number and placed it in the
"Calling from which number" block. It could be a scam. Same as you calling with caller I.d. faker
With someone eles number in the "call from" box. Look up caller I.d. faker and you'll understand.
Got a call from 210-456-1815 today (30 Aug 10), stated he was from USAA in texas. I'm pretty sure it was legit, he was only calling about my financial assessment -odd that they would call 3-6 months after I completed it though.
