I got a phone call from this number from a woman who identified herself as "Yolanda" something. She said she was calling from USAA about a transaction that could not be made on one of my accounts due to a mismatch between the money (an IRA rollover from Putnam) and the type of receiving account. When I asked her for an account number so I could figure out what she was talking about, she read me a long number that had nothing to do with my USAA accounts. When I asked her about it, she then said it was the Putnam number. I hung up and called USAA. After two phone calls, numerous referrals within the company and about two hours they could not identify any Yolanda there, any sign that a USSA representative had been looking at my account, or any possible reason for this call. I can only assume that this call was an attempted fraud. USAA's fraud team was investigating it.
I had never received calls from this area code until about two weeks ago.
They called three times one day, then nothing, then five times over the weekend. After looking at a few web sites and their conflicting comments, I called USAA (I do have an account with them). The customer service rep was very helpful: said there were no notations of any calls being made to me, and that their calls would always come from 800 numbers.
I see the posting above from fivealarmgirl - however, I would still be cautious. Don't give out *any* info - just ask them to take you off their list.
Got a call today from 2104661815 the connection was bad, but the guy wanted my credit card number. I told him to call back and leave USAA 1800 number and I would call it. He never called back and I think this was a fraud attempt. I emailed USAA with this story and waiting for their response.
This phone number is a generic phone number for USAA which is a huge company. Living in San Antonio, I have a lot of family and friends that work there. Sometimes, if they call me from work, then this is the number that will come up on caller ID. So the calls could just be personal if you know someone who works there. It is a legitimate number for USAA, however.
