I was getting debt collection calls for someone who does not live at my home. Would tell them that and they did not believe me. Would leave long messages on the voice mail. Contacted agency listed but the calls kept coming. Went to local JP and she said they are out of state and nothing our state laws can do. In other words , there is nothing the government can do. A 90 year old friend of mine had the same problem. He finally told the caller that he was an old man, was going to find out where they worked and come in and shoot all of them if they kept calling. He said that by the time he would go to trial , he would be dead anyway. The calls stopped. Only threats can stop these scammers and collection agencies.
I run a business so I answer and return all calls, even those unknown. When I called this number back I got a recording that the Verizon number I called was no longer in service.
Not sure how that could be since they just called less than 1 minute before I returned their call. I could look up every number before I return calls, but when you run a business and are on the road a lot, that is not a very feasible solution for getting back to potential customers quickly.
In any event, appreciate this site to keep people in the loop in the wage on spamsters. :)
shop around for phones that have caller id block features. -- it's cheaper than buying a good stand alone callbocker - i use panasonic cordless models. shop around and look for the caller id block feature. the only drawback is that you cannot block while call is in progress at least i haven't figured that out yet.
