It's one of many stock scam variants. Basically a new york phone/address (where they ARE NOT LOCATED) with high pressure stock salesmen. They buy your phone number from DUNS then try to get the owner's name - that's important since he will have the disposable income. From there the high pressure screws get tightened - things like "just a minute of your time - I can make you (pick some number) percent when this company (gets a buyout, goes public - the script depends on how intelligent they think the 'owner' is) - then it's rush time - so can we close on 50,000 shares now, I'll have the papers overnighted to you tomorrow AM, which if you say anything but [NO] then there is a fedex on your door, with a buy order in your name for 50,000 shares at say $10/share for 1/2 million dollars - a few forms to fill out so they can resell your name to other houses of stock grinding, and a convenient fedex return form to ship back your check to them, which they will call AGAIN tomorrow to remind you of how much time you have to get the money into them and how much you have already made since the buy went through this AM. Of course considering that you bought 50,000 shares, a move of .01 will make you $500 so the script continues to GET YOUR MONEY SENT IN.
How to best deal with them:
1- record all calls in or out of your phone
2- get a cid box and have them confirm their phone and address on tape, names are good too
3- instruct them that you are not interested and that they may not call this number again
4- instruct them that you have documented this call and are forwarding it to your companies legal dept.
I love how their scripts start with a blatant lie about previous conversations. They have called 3 times in the last month and I have told them each time to stop calling.
877-772-7818 got me to their office. Their practices are illegal, and their scripts are full of lies.
I am sure they will be facing a class action eventually like they all do.
As I write this one of these morons is hassling me (212-293-0004). He calls about 1-3 times a day and has tried different ruses to get to various people in our company. We have changed his caller ID to "Idiot Jerkface" so we know when it is him and it always makes us smile. I use different voices to answer the phone. He just fell for it; hilarious. I just "transferred him" to someone, but not really, he is on hold now for a record 2-1/2 minutes! Usually, I say I am going to transfer him to whomever he wants and simply just hang up the phone. Then he calls back and I tell him that we are having a lot of trouble with our phones today and that he will hear a dial tone after the transfer, but he has to stay on the line and it will eventually get connected in about 10 seconds. Gotta have a sense of humor with these guys, otherwise you get so mad. Have fun with them everyone!
Just received a call from Joe at Spartan, asked for the owner by first name,I asked him what is it in reference to and he said is Perry in, I said yes he is and he said ok run along and go get him hurry, I asked again what this is in reference to and he hung up. The number that called came up on caller Id. I called the number and it said it was disconnected.
