Ditto Jimmy. The same people have been bugging me and arguing with me for at least 2 years. I politely turn them down. Now I hang up immediately. They actually have very fine specific-industry journals/magazines. I just want to read them, buy stuff from their advertisers and not have them phone me ever again.
After receiving several calls from pushy women, I finally got a reasonable one today. She said that her company's name is Strobe Communications Center and that they are in Jamaica. I told her to take our number off their list and she said that they would and apologized for the hassle. I too have used Institutional Investor (magazine and website) in the past and they are a respected firm. I may send them a message saying that this Jamaican company is overzealous and not doing Institutional Investor's reputation any favors.
Just called Institutional Investor and talked to a woman there who said they had just been told about it, and are investigating it. From what she said, this seems to be a scam and is not related to the company (which I have always had good experience with), but the lady I talked to was apologetic and said they were on it.
I actually called institutional investor customer service after I spoke to the lady in the caribbean to alert them to this, and the woman at II did not at all seem concerned and said that it is probably some telemarketing company that they have hired to call about subscriptions.
Call received today from this number. Person on the phone was looking for someone here (my business) who passed away almost a year earlier. We advised the caller, and, like other similar calls, the caller promptly hung up.
This call always appears as a hangup/missed call. When I DO happen to catch the call and answer, they always hang up. Why is the call ID information showing Los Angeles CA and the caller claiming to be in the Carribean? What is the point of the call if the caller always hangs up?
