Just got this call and did not answer. I tried calling back because my mom is visiting LA and the call never when through so looked up the number to be sure. Thanks 800 notes! Had a call from a person saying I need to call his officer Robert Mathews or he would have me arrested. So I called Robert Mathews.He said that I had an outstanding balance on taxes. I aske him how that could be as I never got anynotice on any such thing and I file my taxes every year the same way. He wanted to know if I filed my taxes myself or did I use an accountant. That right there told me he was not from the IRS as they know that answer as his name is on my tax returnes. He continued to say that I would be arrested if I didn't take care of this. I never got to the point of where and how he wanted me to do that. I told him to send to me by mail what the actual problem with my taxes were and I would look into it. But he insisted they would not do that, they would within 15 minutes have police at my door arresting me. I said go ahead, and if so I would have him arrested. and hung up.
Received a call from Robert Williams from Department of Treasury threatening to put me "behind the bars." I received multiple calls (seven in one day). This is a scam. I told the caller that this was a scam and they quickly hung up. When I called back at a different time from a different number - a Robert Matthews answered the phone. I am not sure if they are trying to gather personal information or back charge your phone for the reply phone call. BEWARE of this scam and report it to the authorities.
I'm a partner in a CPA firm and got the same call from the same number...who was from the "treasury service." No such think, numb-skull...it's the treasury department or the Internal Revenue Service. These are fraudulent, and they are illegally representing themselves as federal agents. Also, be advised that the IRS NEVER makes calls like this. They also never contact you without a mailed notice...in fact it's against the law when they do. Someone needs to take these jerks down.
I have recived these phone calls also, fed Emp. Numbers are 7 digits long he only gave me a four number digit number lol I called the secret service to let them know they were saying they were from the US treasury and are not... I used to work for the economic and statistics admin. Lol the secret service said if anyone shows up at your address claiming to be from the US treasury to immediately call our local secrect service branch!
