M Benavidez......your post is hilarious! I just received a call from this same phone number and let it go to my answering machine. I heard the guy identify himself as Joshua Williams (heavy Indian accent) and he was from the Dept. of Legal Affairs-US treasury. When I heard he was looking for our daughter, I lost it! I picked up the phone and SCREAMED at him, "You sonofabuck! How dare you call our house! Our daughter doesn't live here anymore and I know this is a fraudulent call. Don't you EVER call back here again!". I slammed the phone down so hard that it's fortunate I didn't break it. Our family is dealing with the impending death of a brother and this is the last thing I need my phone line to be mucked up with. Hopefully, people are getting smarter and don't fall for this scam. Maybe I'll get a whistle to put by my phone in case they ever call back again. Someone is going to need a doctor to deal with a broken eardrum!
I just received a message from "Steve Smith" (with a heavy Indian accent) also from US Treasury, Dept of Legal Affairs. The caller ID had a different phone number (315-519-8019) than the number which he provided to call back. I called the ID caller number first which, when I called back, was endlessly busy. When I called back the number he provided (213-928-7123), it said that the voice mail was for "Keith Nelson" and was "full" (maybe due to the hilarious response of M. Benevidez above). I was initially concerned because my mother just passed away and as executor, I am dealing with not only a LOT of grieft but also, many business phone calls... Now, thanks to all of you nice people who posted, I am going to ignore this jerk.
I just received a call from a "Michael Lee" - sounds like the same exact guy. Of course, I did not give any indication the person he was calling for (me) was there. He wouldn't tell me anything about what it was, or who he was, and actually had the gall to ask for another number. I told him no, I would take a message or he wouldn't get a call back. Knew something was up by that alone, took pulling teeth to get a phone number and info. Sounded like a bunch of baloney - why would the US Treasury be coming with a police officer in 2 hours to my address? He's not going to get a call back, and if he calls when anyone else is home, oh I guarantee he will be chewed out. The government tends to handle things with mail and paperwork, not vague phone calls that don't announce the identity of the caller.
Just received te same call and message on my answering machine, as I did not recognize the 213- number when it came up. Same story as everyone above. He's still at it!
This Indian jerk left a message on our home phone with the same lame story. Heavy Indian accent with an American name "Alan Clark" (how dumb can you be fooling people with that). He should say his name is Apu Atseveneleven or Apu Kwikeemart or Stinky Armpits.... that would be more convincing.
Got my wife worried. I told her that he is not real, a scammer and not to call back.
I should do what Benavidez, call his [***] up nonstop with a heavy Indian accent and telling him that the INS, FBI, IRS, LAPD are on their way to send his [***] back to India.
I received a call from (213) 437-6041, it woke me up out of a dead sleep. As I looked at the number I knew what it was, I've been getting these phone calls for so long that I just answer them once to make sure and block them. When I answered he asked for an Eric something, he didn't even have the right number! Anyway, I told him he had a wrong number and he said something about the US Treasury and asked my name, I responded with "No." He seemed annoyed with me and asked again. I responded the same way and he began to ask me questions, being half asleep I couldn't understand him through his accent. At one point it sounded like he asked if this number belonged to a "residence", but he must've said "resident" and when I responded no he said he was sending the authorities to check on that and make sure I was a legal US resident. (I've been threatened like this before over claiming I don't own a computer.) I was fully awake at this point and asked what company he worked for and tried to ask his name and he hung. I waited a few minutes and called him back, I asked to speak to management and he said he was and when I continued asking questions he asked who I was and I asked questions until he hung up after yelling "You're wasting my time!" I called back and got his name (Keith Nelson) from his answering machine. Again waited a few minutes and called back telling him I was from the US Fraud Dept. and there had been multiple reports about this phone number and that I wanted to make sure this was Keith Nelson in LA and he smashed buttons in my ear until he finally just hung up. I've blocked the number now, but I had a little bit of fun.
