Received a collect call today from this # and it asked for a credit card # stating it was a collect call from my sons friend. It has my sons friend voice on it. I knew he was going to Texas so I thought something was wrong and input my cc # but the system said it was declined which it shouldn't been. Now I am afraid that was a big mistake. Called the number back and answering message that the call couldnt be completed.
Just got a phone from my boyfriend who is at the Washington airport from this number, it must be a general payphone line or something like this.I told him I'd call back but it is busy too.
I received a call from 214-969-5489. It appears to be a calling card, after checking. The person calling me lives in Illinois, so I was confused when the area code turned out to be Texas. It must be a calling card switchboard.
I am surprised and even amused that ao many people are this freaked out by this phone call. Before cell phones, these calls were all too common in the 80s and 90s from prisoners all over the country. The number belongs to a calling card company in Texas. People from all over the country use the calling card but the call is made from the Texas office. The calls are outgoing only, never incoming. People will use calling cards, and call people in this manne rin order to procure credit card numbers or other personal information. the trick it, if you try to trace it, you will just get the calling card company number, never the source of where the call is actually coming from. It is hilarious to me that people go as far as to call the cops and feel afraid. You are just victims of a scam, not any less difficult than it is for solicitors to call you randomly or from a list of numbers.
This number just called my cell phone right after 6am this morning. I didn't answer it b/c there is no one I know with such a number. Haven't investigated any further than this site but now I know not to answer it.
