strange call from a person with a heavy asian accent, immediately starting asking for address info, when I questioned who was calling she stated it was a GPS service verifying addresses, then immediately asked more questions, I was somewhat vague with my responses because I questioned the validity of the call, normally someone who is legitimately requesting info would identify the
company or reason for the cal prior to asking questions
This gentleman called today and yes, I would agree that it was VERY difficult to understand him. He knew he was calling the state agency responsible for the State Capitol, wanted the address and to know whether it was a tourist attraction. The line was VERY full of static and difficult to hear, but once I gave him the address, he politely said thank you and hung up. Not so much a hassle, and certainly not private information, but it sure would be nice if the people who call would slow down and speak a little more clearly! Reading the comments that it's a digital mapping company certainly explains the questions he asked. THANK YOU!
This is an India based company that works on contract for mapping companies. They are calling to confirm or update business addresses and landmarks for navigation based services. If you want your GPS devices to have accurate information then you'd be best served by helping them.
Caller didn't identify himself, first question was "is this a business or residence?", knew our old adress but we didn't give out our new address. Just kept repeating, seemed confused "is this a residence?" We used to get a lot of calls for an old business that wasn't ours, but had the same phone number, but we have had this # for almost 3 years now.
Our machine shop got a call form a person with a thick accent who said his name was "James". Yeah right "James"> Anyway wanted to know if we worked on cars (which is a question we get frequently from customers) so I said No. we only work on engines. Then he asked what our address was...I asked why....he said I am verifeying your address. I said I'm not verifying anything but you almost got me that time "James".
He really did almost get me because it is a common question we get. I am so sick of these scammers!
