Called today for first time. I usually don't answer caller unknown but am sick of telemarketers. When I answered he said welcome back and laughed a scary laugh and hung up.
Yesterday @ 1:41PM and today, 8/21/09 @ 8:42PM... Same thing, the phone rings, we answer, no one is on the other end. We wait and say "hello?" about 10 times and then get disconnected. After becoming curious, I typed in the phone number under Google and found this site. I tried to use "call block" to block the call, however, a AT&T recording comes on saying that this number can not be blocked. Rather annoying. Reading these posts, it seems like they may be calling regarding a past AutoWeek subscription that we had years ago? From now on, I will not be so quick to fill in all the blanks on those forms (such as phone numbers).
This number kept showing on my caller id. I finally picked it up. He said he was calling from Autoweek about my subscription. I asked to be taken off the call list. He said I doubt it. All of the information I asked from him was completely made up. He used my last name when I asked his name, when I asked where he was calling from he used my address.
been getting calls on my caller ID that just show "unknown name" with no number. Today "unknown name" had this number. My Playboy subscription is about to expire and I'm going to let it expire. I have gotten legitimate calls from Playboy , which I don't answer either, so that's probably what "unknown name" wants with me. I use caller ID like an answering machine, except I don't answer. I leave the ringer turned off so I can watch TV in peace and when the caller ID blinks I check it when it's convenient for me and see who called. If it was someone I know I'll call them back to see what they wanted. Most often, though, it's "toll free number", "out of area", Unknown name" or the like. If a number shows I come to this site and see who the pest was. After calling umpteen times and never getting an answer most of them finally give up. The only inconvenience this causes me is hitting the Delete button on my caller ID and as I do saying to myself "so long, sucker you'll never get an answer from me."
I have been receiving these phone calls for seversl weeks now. As a retired Phx. AZ. Police Sgt. I decided that the next time they called that I would record the conversation. When they called I answered," Phoenix Police Dept. What is your emergency"? They called me a few names of which I can not print and hung up. I took the recording and the cell phone that they had called to the Police dept.where I filed a harassment charge against them. I AZ. it is only a misdemeanor. However, the Police have several secrets that can be used to ,#1 locate them, #2 Identify them, #3even as to which extension that was used, #4and contact the Attorney Generals office for Michigan to enlist thier help in the prosecution. If this works out I "WILL POST THE RESULTS" and how you can get thier info as well!
I have received several calls, I tell them I am no longer a subscriber of Guideposts (they say they are calling about my subscription) and I have started telling them to remove my name because I am on the National Do Not Call Registry. Usually they hang up, but today the woman told me they were allowed to call me everyday!! Then she hung up.
