Received the same call which wanted my computer to be turned on. So I went along with the scam and then blasted a very fowl langauge assault.
The party hung up, they keep call 3 so far today. The priblem is, I don't have a house computer. :)
When I answered a call fwded from landline to my cell connection in my auto, I too got a very pronounced accent who then replied to my question who is calling me? "this is Mircosoft's Support Team calling." When I asked for an employee ID#, the caller disconnected immediately. I get these type calls off and on. Since I have used "Microsoft's Support Team Service" several times to resolve computer software glitches, most edoften with thick accented technical help, I admit I have wonder if there is a connection. My landline is unpublished & unlisted for the past decade.
The call to your landline was most likely just the "luck of the draw," as numbers are robo-dialed in rapid succession, and are just looking for someone to answer or in some cases, to call back.
The Windows scam is well known and running rampant. I'm more than certain this was a random hit on your phone. The fact that the scammer hung up immediately when you asked for his ID should serve as proof that it was a scam in the making. People do fall for this, turning over control of their computers to total strangers. Sad but true.

They call me every day about 5 times a day. This is my business line so I kept answering trying to see who it was. Well, this morning they said windows too. When i asked why they were calling, they simply hung up. However if you try to call this phone number it says it's no longer in service. Now I have to find out how to block it. Grrrrrrrrrrr
239-793-2144 with caller ID for Karl Mayer called my landline. Said they were calling from Microsoft about my computer. This gentlemen had an accent from India. I just hung up on him. I agree this is a scam.
