i actualy wrk for a collction agency that collects on defaulted government loans.(and before anyone gets snippy with me, i have a college education and the reason i have this job is because it pays extremely well.) these are legit debts that we have no problem sending proof for. we give out our address, phone #, web site, whatever the debtor asks for. i am well aware of fdcpa laws and the company i work for DOS NOT use scripts or scare tactics to get people to pay bills. we execute litigation referral and set up wage garnishments if a person doesnt want to pay. soooo, last night im at my mothers and i answered her phone. i told the man that my mother wasnt home but i would giver her a mssg. the man proceeded to tell me that he was investigating a complaint against my mother for attempting to defraud a financial institution, thef of goods and services, and for grand larceny. he gave me the comp name Litigation Consulting Services, an affidavite# and a call back #. i asked for an address. he said that due to the nature of their business they could not give that out. i asked for a po box, a fax, something, anything verifiable. the man said that anything that needed to be sent could be sent with my mothers answer to the summons. i asked the man if they were to adhere to FDCPA and privacy laws. he said they wernt a collection agency so they had to abide by no laws. and then he hung up on me. the debt they are trying to collect on in from 1979. i dont condone not paying bills at all but this is illegal. we live in texas. SOL is 4 years. i have tried to verify this company thru BBB and couldnt find anything. anybody know anything about this company.

It's a scam that goes by such names as MoreStar Consultancy, LLC; Litigation Consulting Service, LLC; Claims & Warrants; and North American Asset Investigation Bureau, LLC (NAAIB). For details, read consumer credit advocate Bud Hibbs' report on these scammers: http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm

One thing it remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest or criminal charges, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) have the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) These type of crooks also routinely impersonate FBI agents, police and other law enforcement officials, which, obviously, is illegal as well. (Besides, law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection, and debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)

The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money. Ignore their illegal threats and report their attempts to extort money from you to all these federal and state law enforcement agencies:

1) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.

2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov  Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone and give them all the details.

3) Maryland Attorney General  http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/complaint.htm  (Litigation Consulting claims to be in Maryland)

4) Your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org

5) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone.  Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.

6) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en

If these criminals call back, tell them that they aren't getting any money from you and that you've reported their scam to federal and state law enforcement. They will react with the usual moronic, false threats.  If possible, try to save any voice messages they leave and, if legal in your state, record their calls if you speak with them. (Inexpensive phone recorders are available at Radio Shack-type stores.)

Hope this helps.

I received a call from this agency in Dec, representing an actual creditor that I owe, and was pretty excited to actually get this one taken care of.  I'd made payment arrangements through my bank account, thru July, and had 4 pmts already taken care of.  Then, I kept getting phone calls from another agency trying to collect on the same monies-I called the original creditor and they said that the agency the account had been sold to was NOT this LCF, but the other one (which they sent me documentation).  My bank closed out our account to prevent further fraudulent withdrawls.  I filed a fraud report with the police.  I received calls yesterday threatening to go to jail, so I called the police and they said there was NO warrants out for my arrest, and the detective told me to keep accurate records of every call and who I spoke to.  Now, to "John", while some of us in debt have only ourselves to blame, it is only for the debt, NOONE deserves inhumane treatment, even you, on your "high and mighty" throne.  There are some of us trying to get out of debt, and you'll NEVER know the hardship my family has gone through, both physically and emotionally, that was the hindrance for paying debt.  We had great credit until loss of job and then a broken back knocked us on our "cans".  BACK OFF! Then try to grow a real heart.

I received a call from someone by the name of Victoria Branson posing as a special investigator phone# 240-696-8261 and told me that there is a civil compliant filed against my name in my county and she gave me a summons# that is totally weird#. And that when I return the call to have my Atty. present in the court since I was named as the respondent. First of all, if this whole thing is legitimate, I should have gotten a summons in the mail. You do not just act on something just because someone says so. Besides she did not identify her company and right there is a red flag. It is good thing that I screen all my calls before I decide to answer. And I am not about to fall for her scam and be threatened by what she is saying. I am in the same business of collections and her actions only tells me she is a scammer and will intimidate someone if you fall for it. I am very critical on situation like this when someone tries to scam you for your hard earned  money. So, at this point I already filed a complaint against who she is so her and the others can be tracked down and stop their unlawful business practices.

Received a phone message from them today calling themselves the investigation bureau (I kept the message) that there has been a civil complaint filed against me.  Besically, they're posing as if they were the FBI with a Maryland area code number.  The person leaving the message was a Sabrina Washington.

Of course this is a scam as I don't owe anything to anyone and who calls threatening lawsuit without properly identifying whom they are such as a legitimate business name.  And, of course the poster with his capped diatribe is someone that is both part and party to this scam.  Also, consider besides reporting to the above agencies, making a report to the IRS (particularly in Maryland) for possible unpaid taxes by this illegitimate business entity.

By the way, if anyone here does owe money on an old debt like the person with a debt from 1999, the statute of limitation has run out on it therefore a civil action could not be successfully taken in any court in any jurisdiction.
