It's a scam that goes by such names as MoreStar Consultancy, LLC; Litigation Consulting Service, LLC; Claims & Warrants; and North American Asset Investigation Bureau, LLC (NAAIB). For details, read consumer credit advocate Bud Hibbs' report on these scammers: http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm
One thing it remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest or criminal charges, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) have the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) These type of crooks also routinely impersonate FBI agents, police and other law enforcement officials, which, obviously, is illegal as well. (Besides, law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection, and debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)
The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money. Ignore their illegal threats and report their attempts to extort money from you to all these federal and state law enforcement agencies:
1) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone and give them all the details.
3) Maryland Attorney General http://www.oag.state.md.us/Consumer/complaint.htm (Litigation Consulting claims to be in Maryland)
4) Your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org
5) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone. Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
6) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these criminals call back, tell them that they aren't getting any money from you and that you've reported their scam to federal and state law enforcement. They will react with the usual moronic, false threats. If possible, try to save any voice messages they leave and, if legal in your state, record their calls if you speak with them. (Inexpensive phone recorders are available at Radio Shack-type stores.)
Said that they gives summons on all types of cases. They had the wrong number for me. But be aware they have partial ssn's. So even if they name off some of the numbers in your ssn tell them it is not you.
I got the same call kind on my cell from a different number with the same area code. My "Special Investigator" was Jennifer Basil. The call back number was (240) 482-8248. I almost believed it because my ex tends to use my identity for his personal gain. I was happy to find this site informing me that it was a scam. Thank you for all your comments.
I RECIEVED A CALL FROM A MRS DIANE MEYERS CLAIMING TO BE FROM A CLAIMS COMPANY REPRESENTING TRANSOUTH. SHE TOLD ME I WOULD BE RECIEVEING A SUMMONS TO APPEAR IN COURT IF I DIDNT PAY THE BILL. I TOLD HER I HAD PROOF THAT I HAD PAID THIS AND SHE TOLD ME THEY DIDNT EXCEPT FAXES.THIS CALL WAS PLACED AT 11PM, BREAKING ALL FDCPA LAWS. I CALLED BACK TO EXPLAIN AND AGAIN WAS THREATED THAT I WOULD BE GOING TO JAIL BY A VERY RUDE WHITE WOMAN. SHE SAID I WAS A LIAR AND TO WAIT ON THE SUMMONS. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPT AND THEY SD THEY RECIEVED A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FROM THIS COMPANY AND NOT TO GIVE THEM ANYTHING THEY ARE SCAM ARTIST. HE ALSO STATED THE ATTY GENERAL WILL BE ALL OVER THEIR [***] FOR THEIR CRIMINAL WAYS. BE WARE OF THEM
I just received the same phone call, but they were asking for one of my family members, not me, which is strange. The lady was very rude and started harrassing me. When I asked her what company she was calling from, she put me on hold and came back very aggressive and at this point she started to harrass me. I told her that it seemed odd and suspicious that she would not provide me with the company she was representing and again she started to get very defensive, so I told her to never call my house again and hung up. A guy called me a couple of minutes later presented himself as an attorney and that he was going to press charges on me. I think he was confused and thought that I was my relative. Clearly, the lady I previously spoke with did not explain it to him. In any event, he started to threaten me and I told them that I was a citizen and knew my rights and to never contact me again. This company definitely sounds like a SCAM. I would not provide them with any personal information if I were any of you. If it is in fact a collection agency then it would show up on your credit report, so I wouldn't worry to much about it if I were you. You can trust anyone calling you nowadays, there's a lot of scams out there.
