I had a message on my recorder that I was to call this number immediately and it said that they were the criminal investigation department of the IRS and I'm being sued by the IRS to call immediately.
Just got one this morning and panicked... (This was before during some research) and called them back but the line was busy. So instead, I called the IRS in my county and now I'm just waiting for them to call back... Maybe they can do something about this?
Received a call at 6:30 AM on my cell phone number from 268-447-5922, a recorded message claimed that the IRS Criminal Division has been trying to reach me. The message said that they are filing a law suite against me and urged me to call 253-292-2555.
I also received another call yesterday that told me that I qualified to receive $9,000.00 from the Government. Had my name and address and wanted to confirm my information and asked me more questions. I recognized it was a scam so I hung up.
I am sure my phone number has gone in bad hands. 100% scams, shame on them.
I got the exact same phoney call. It was from 935-569-3601. Said they were giving me "final notice." Of course the IRS actually will send you a letter. Which I never got. If it is really that bad, they are going to show up at your door.
What I would like to know is how many people that get this message used one of the free tax filing software of the internet. Because I never give my cell number on tax returns, just my home phone.
