What a LIAR!!! Wage garnishment is done by court order. Phone calls are not an official notification of debt either. Please read Elspeth'so excellent comment and give your state attorney general a call. Also show this thread to your employer. You know the caller is a liar so read up on your rights.
Received aseveral calls back to back at my job and my cell phone, caller stating he is a mediator for MWS Financial and was calling to offer me a settlement on a payday loan. Stated he had already spoken with my Human Resources depth and arranged a wage garnishment, that if I didn't pay, I would be turned over for legal action and that I would not be able to write checks or use my debit or check card. Very pushy, arrogant and would not let me talk. He said he could arrange a settlement for half of what I owed. Also stated he had spoken with someone at my bank and they approved him to take the money directly out of my checking account. I called my bank and they said that no one can do that unless I was on the call to approve it. I had a payday loan that I already paid off through the company I borrowed it from and have all of that correspondence saved via the emails that I sent to that particular company directly.

I, too, just got a call from a "Richard Bailey" saying the same things...first he said he was calling from a debt collecting firm and then changed his tune and said he was starting proceedings to have me arrested in the county in which I live...for what, I have no clue...I'm assuming it's an online loan (that I never took out) - but I was the victim of identity theft about 15 months ago...for which no one has ever been found guilty of (and never will) - how on earth do you stop these harassing phone calls??? It really sucks when you have to prove you are who you say you are when all it does is allow the [***] who stole your identity in the first place to continue violating you!
I recieved a call from my cell and office about 10 minutes apart. Good thing I didn't answer. This 1800 notes is my resource to check if the phone number has a history of harrassing and scamming people like us. This has to stop!
