They call about a delinquent retail account closed for several years. Tried to get me to provide a credit card # to pay over the phone. I don't know who they are, where they are, and I'm damned sure not giving them authorization to charge my credit card. I'm directed to make the payment to "www.payuslp.com", I go to the website which makes no sense to me at all. When I re-call the number (281-647-4152)it just rings and rings and eventually cuts me off. If I owe the debt I'll pay it. But I'm not giving any financial information to some screwball agency that just feels like a scam. If Mervyn's would step forward like a legitimate business and send me, in writing, a statement of the past due amount I would rectify the debt IMMEDIATELY. But I'm not paying these jackals.
I am contiinuosly getting calls from this number...i state that the person they are calling for is at work and when i ask for a message, all they will give me is a number and won't let me know what the call is in reference to...i called back to get the name of the company and the receptionist hangs up on me?? What is the deal with these people?? isn't it illegal to harrass people on their cell phones?
I received a call at work from this number today, 1/11/08, saying that I owed Massey's $16.83. I knew that I did not owe them any money and I told the person on the line just that. She insisted I did and it had to be paid immediately. I told her I would deal directly with Massey's and hung up. I then proceeded to call Massey's whom I do have an account with but have a zero balance. I spoke with the credit manager and he said I do not owe any money and Universal Fidelity was not hired to call me for collections and to disregard the call. On top of that, I did not give Massey's my work phone number. I typically give my home and my cell as a back-up. Not sure where they got my work number and what kind of scam they are trying to run but my gut feeling is this is not a legitimate collection agency. There are so many scams out there that I hope people will be cautious paying these type of collectors over the phone with their credit card or bank account info. It could be really bad if they do!
