Caller claimed to be from the Microsoft Technical Department saying that my computer was activating some sort of alert that was blinking. Since I am at a school, I dutifully advised him that I could take a message and requested a number where he could be called so our IT admin could return his call. He hung up...
Said it was a Microsoft tech and my laptop had an issue. They were correct, showing me the error logs (I pulled them up), but then they wanted me to connect to their server to fix it. I declined, and fixed the issue myself.
Microsoft NEVER 'phone. Check out their website for confirmation. The "errors" they showed you are not errors at all, they are a normal part of your computer usage. This scam has been running for years. TThe bottom line is that anyone 'phoning and saying you have computer problems is a scammer, no exceptions.
Got call, person id'd themselves as from MSFT and that my computer was showing errors that he needed to fix. Asked him to e-mail me so I could confirm his identity and he declined but said I should call him back.
