Guy asked to speak with me, I said "can I help you?" Never say "Yes" These guys and others like this are recording your voice to have you say "Yes", and "Your Name" to gain access to your bank and credit cards when they hack you.
Same here. Guy with an Indian accent. Asked for a co-worker who used to have my number. I said, you have the wrong number, but i can get you his number. He said "so this is your direct line?" I said "its my number now, but it used to be (name). I can get.." He kept asking me if this was my number. He was trying to get me to say "yes."
I read a while back that scammers will try to get you to say "YES" and record you saying it. They then use that recording for automated systems for scamming purposes. Not sure exactly how it works, but they are trying to get you to say something SPECIFIC.
This CBS News article talks about it: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/beware-new-can-you-hear-me-scam/ . Not sure how true all this is, but becareful how you answer your phones.
This is a new scam where they ask for your name and record your voice saying YES. Then they bill you for some product or service, because they have your real name, real phone, real address, and a recording of you saying YES. So when someone asks for you using your name, NEVER say Yes. Ask who is calling? Do not confirm who you are or you will receive a bill either on a credit card or a bill in the mail, or who knows. With a recording of your actual voice saying YES, is all the proof they need to say you ordered something, even though you didn't. They find all your personal info online and on your facebook, twitter, instagram, etc If you must use facebook, twitter, instagram, sign up with a fake name and different city and state.
