Called on behalf of "my energy" company and needed me to provide account info. When I asked if they knew who my energy company was, they said it was either... A, B, or C. I hung up.
I took the call from the number because it looked local. The gentleman identified himself as someone working with a company (I thought he said Starion) and wanted to discuss my Pepco bill. He asked me to get my recent bill so he could go over it with me and show me how the government's recent energy grant was going to lower my energy cost. I was afraid it was one of those company's that trick you into switching your utility service so I told him I didn't have the time to talk and to send me his info via postal mail. He kept insisting on calling back at a better time but I didn't give him any more info and hung up.
Just had a similar experience: caller said my next Pepco generation bill would be lower because of.... Caller ID said Startel, number 301-262-7741. said he was calling on behalf of Starion. Wanted me to verify my address, etc. He tried to avoid admitting that he was trying to "sell" me on changing my supplier. Got huffy when I told him his approached "sucks" and I would never do business with someone like that over the phone, when I have to first verify personal info before he'll tell me what the call is really about.
