Gotta love scammers...they'll try anything. DON'T ANSWER IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE NUMBER! Let them leave a message, then look up the number here, then BLOCK the number!
I got a VM with the whole cardmember services rate reduction spill too. It seems that anyone that answers gets told, "wrong number, please disregard" but if it goes to VM, they get the cardmember services recording. Sounds like a scam to me.
I also received the same call described. This whole scam thing would be easier on decent Americans if the government just put out a list of the 5 or 6 telemarketing companies who aren't crooks.
I got the Debt Management pitch left as a voice mail message since I don't answer calls which I don't recognize.
I assume it's a scam to get my credit card info, but even IF it was legitimate, they would presumably be charging a fee to do something which I can do myself.
NEVER give out credit or bank or security card # to anyone who calls you, no matter what they say. Anyone who calls you trying for personal and/or financial information is a scammer!
If you have any question whether or not someone is calling from your bank or credit card company, hang up the phone, and call the number on the back of your card. If you already did give out any information to one of these scammers, then call your bank/credit card company first and ask for their fraud department to report it. Afterward, call your local police department and ask to speak to their financial crimes detective.
