This is a version of the you-have-committed-a-crime extortion scam. Beware extortion scams come in many flavors and they constantly evolve.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Never do what they tell you to do but report them to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.
There is something your mom can do. The next time they call up, tell your mom to hold the phone really close to the smoke alarm and press the "test" button.
they called talking about I have been sued for fraud under the 9098 law enforcement act and they will send me the subpena thru the mail. They said cannot give me the amount for which I am being sued or anything.
Received a call from above number where the caller asked for someone else by name, not me. Caller had such severely broken english I could not understand much of the message left on my voicemail. I did not answer this call as I did not recognize the number. They called twice back to back attempting to have someone answer. What really has me irritated is this call was received on my cell phone which has call block. My call block was on and stays on for just such calls but somehow this number managed to bypass my call block and get through twice! Beware! Beware! of phone number 303-997-1107!
I don't know this person or company but they call me at work! its disturbing to get calls like this, they are definitely fraud calls trying to collect money from Americans! please do something
Just got a call from 303-997-1107 claiming he was an officer from the department of law and investigation lol! This is the second one I have gotten - different person this time. Last one told me to verify my ssn and gave me last 4. I told her bite me. Someone is trying to steal my identity and I already went through this once - 10 years ago. Not about to have this again.
I got the same message, in hard to hear broken English, saying they were from the Fraud Department and trying to contact me about an issue and a subpoena would go out this week and if I didn't call him back all he could say was Good Luck. He claimed to be a "Mr. Johnson" but didn't give a company name.
Funny thing is this happened a few weeks ago while I was in Florida also and said his name was Mark White, then Kevin Black and said it was from a payday advance loan from last year. He had my SS#, Drivers' License Number and Bank Account number. So I started calling him every 5 minutes to harass him and he got pissed off. He must have hacked into a payday loan company to get this information.
I called my bank (Chase) and they said I have a ZERO LIABILITY for unauthorized purchases, just wakes me want to change my bank account number and I will never trust these PAYDAY LOAN things ever again. If anyone starts a Class Action Lawsuit, I would want to be included.
