***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

About 5 minuets ago got this same call on my iPhone. Didn't answer because I didn't know the number and I'm glad I didn't after reading about it. Weird how they can not only get your phone number, but your name and your relatives names. Kinda scary when you think about it.
I got a phone call from a guy named Todd with Accu file. He said he was trying to get in touch with my son regarding a warrant for his arrest. He also said it was from the sheriff's department. I told him since I am a retired law enforcement officer, I want to know who the sheriff's department is so I can call them and speak to them directly. He got fidigy and did not want to give me the full information. I then realized it's a scam..
I didnt see this site until I had already called the next number they gave me. I dont know why I did that -- i SO know better! Well they had my SSN, my DOB, and my address. Keep an eye on your credit reports folks!!
I just received a call from a "Mike Johnson" from Accufile stating there is a case against me, that there would be all kinds of legal ramifications, etc. I asked him what was the county that this alleged case was being generated from, but he hedged and stated he was only the guy locating the person these other parties wanted to contact. He gave me a case number and a phone number to call. I took down all the information he gave me and I promptly began a search for Accufile. I suspected it was either a scam or an attempt to collect a discharged debt. The number appeared as orginating from Miami, Florida, 786-235-9483.
