Thanks for the info guys. I normally do NOT answer calls like this. Put them in my address book as SC (DATE) so I know I have had that call before. But recently I had investigated information about a drug that I take that is expensive and I was checking to see if there was a program to get a better discount on it. I know that some drugs do have such programs. This may have been generated from my questions. So I will answer the next time they call.
This company is legit. They were at a conference I attended last month and they have helped over 250,000 people apply for a Medicare Savings Program - that is a program that pays for the Part B premium if you qualify. They contract with 44 Medicare plans and help people apply for Medicaid in all 50 states and DC. Because they are contracted by the plans, they are allowed to have plan member's info.
Depending on the plan, they also have a LOT of information about other programs like Lifeline (telephone assistance), LIHEAP (energy assistance), meals on wheels, etc. You should talk to them if you have limited income. They are just trying to help.
I'm a social worker and a client got a call and a package from them. i think they're legit, but are basically selling you a service--the government may cover the cost, but your medicare plan may change. medicare now has several hmo programs they are trying to get people signed up for. it's like all insurance plans--some are good for some people, some are better for others. just be caseful what you're doing.
These people are ligit as far as i know. They are help[ing me get my social security disability and they do many other things to help people. They charge a fee but it is worth it since they do all the paperwork and are experienced in dealing with social services agencies that provide services. They might telemarket but they are a ligit company.
