That depends on your carrier, and how they deliver caller ID. I use a VOIP service through Charter Communications, and most of the calls display as "1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx", even within my area code, which is 805.
First of all, it is a bogus number. No phone numbers start with the number 1 as it was/is the symbol of a long distance call. It turns out that these people did leave a message on the machine although they did stop talking once they realized they were talking to a machine and no one was on the other end.
They wanted to service and clean out the air conditioner. Said something about being from HVAC, but not sure if this was the company or if it was a type of air conditioner. Either way, I can report that this was a telemarketer.
The caller, CALIFORNIA ( displayed as ID. ), called us @ 14:52, we were not home. I returnd the call 07:00 A.M., 07.19.2016. A lady loud message: The number you dialed is not in service...etc." The message seem not from my hone company
