This number showed up as HEARST INC The woman asked for me by first name. I said who is speaking? She said a Pblishing Company. And then I said which one? She hung up and I did a reverse phone look up, Thank you Spokeo!
My call soundes just like all of yours. I confirmed my address and gave her my age while googling her and thus ended up here and told her i had to go and hung up. I never gave her my credit card info, she told me about a lot of free magazines. Does anyone know if all that junk is going to start showing up at my house? I'd like to believe I pulled out before I was scammed but did I let her get to far?
The call didn't come from the 310 number but it's exactly the same scenerio. The call I got was from 520-722-1667 and the woman said it was publisher house. She said I was entered to win the dreams come true sweepstakes and needed to verify my address. She had the address right then went into the magazine pitch. 6 magazines for free for 6 months and then came the $3.95 fee for one week for each magazine and then the pitch about the diamond watch that won't turn my wrist green - thought it was funny she mentioned that. I asked her if I was going to have to provide my credit card number and she said Oh definately not but I hung up anyway. Glad I didn't go any further.
My call came from a slightly different number, but the exact same scenario as the rest. I did confirm my address... but she had it right anyway, so I figure it doesn't matter all that much.
Has anyone had any repercussions from this call? Insane phone bills, identity theft, etc?
I just received a call from this number, it was a girl saying from was calling from Publishers Headquarters, in California. She stated I had won a Dreams Come True Sweepsstakes. When I asked, how I was entered, she said my Bank or Credit Card Company had entered me. When I asked which it was, she couldn't tell me. I told her she was trying to pull a scam and not to be calling me again. She got nasty and I told her she was full of shi! - to get a real job and she told me I was full of shi! and I didn't know what I was talking about. She then said, I'll talk to you later bitc!. Now how's that for representing a Sweepstakes! LOL Beware, they want you to verify your credit information and they intend to use it for themselves. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!!!!!
i just got a call from a 310 number stating that they were with publisher's clearing house. 'charles' kept congratulating me on my upcoming wedding and saying that i had been entered into a drawing for a bridal sweepstakes to win up to $1M dollars. he asked for the spelling of my name and confirmed my home address. then he proceeded to say that they were going to send me two absolutely free roundtrip airline passes...sounded too good to be true so of couse i was suspicious. when he got to the free magazines part i cut him off and said,
"charles, i'm at work right now. so if you are planning to ask me for my credit card information at the end of this call then just let me know now so that i could hang up."
he said in a huff that they were "only interested in brides that are really into the entire wedding planning process because it was a huge grand prize with a photo-op and everything. sorry for wasting your time" and hung up on me.
since he sounded so offended i got worried for a minute that i had really passed up on a $1M opportunity...until i googled online and found out about this 'scam'. BAH!!
