This number showed up as HEARST INC The woman asked for me by first name. I said who is speaking? She said a Pblishing Company. And then I said which one? She hung up and I did a reverse phone look up, Thank you Spokeo!
Wow. I didn't even consider it a scam. They called me a month ago early in the morning, and as a college student, I answered and seriously thought they were for real, that I got entered into a drawing or whatever. Wow. Same pitch and everything, except I stupidly gave them my info (cause if they have my address, they must be somewhat legit, right? Or so i thought.), but they have not withdrawn anything. What should I do???
Plus when I got to the next person, I told him I didn't want to buy any magazines. After that, he was very short with me and hung up.
I got a call from a lady from a different number 310-375-8105 but all the details were the same as previous posts. She said she was calling from the Publisher's Headquarters Sweepstakes from Redondo Beach, CA. She said I was entered by my credit card co. Unfortunately, I was a bit gullible and confirmed my address (which was right) and answered her questions about age, marital status and job title. Luckily, I told her I didn't want any magazines. So, she graciously said goodbye and hung up. So, I'm at least glad I didn't give out any credit card info.
They called me too. They were trying to get me to subscribe to some magazines and pay $4 a week for 48 months! Uh no! They said I got entered in the sweepstakes for being a "good customer who pays on time" but I surely don't pay my credit cards right on time! Other bills take priority sometimes! She couldn't even say what credit card company it was. When I asked her answer was "all the major credit card companies" and scary enough, she had my address, and I just moved. BS! Don't do it!
I just received a call from this number on my cell phone. I NEVER answer numbers I don't recognize, if it's important, they will leave a message, which of course they didn't. I googled the number and came up with this site. I have received calls from 213-430-4262, 213-430-4299, 913-535-2063, found out ALL are linked to scams, and when you try to call number back, you get a recording saying your call cannot be completed as dialed. I think they got my number thru some links on facebook, so be VERY careful about putting your info out there. I've learned now to never put my info on a site I don't know/trust (not facebook, but the links they have from "advertisers")
as an follow-up to my previous post, my cell phone provider does allow me to block up to 15 numbers. I've added all four. The first number, 213-430-4299, was becoming abusive, calling my number up to 14 times per day, sometimes every few minutes. These people/companies are creeps and need to be stopped! my cell is my only phone, and it has been on the do not call list since it's inception, and I updated after they made the registration permanent.
