>> It would seem that there would be away to stop these as swipes from calling.why can't this site give us this information . <<
Um.
One tip was given you in the post made just before yours.
Other tips can be found throughout this site, if you care to look.
Are you aware of call blocker technology?
Have you googled/searched for "Call Blocker?
Call blockers are available as phones, apps (some free) and standalone devices.
Remember,
The Do Not Call List is NOT a call blocker!
Here is 800notes' discussion on call blockers:

Here are two pages of links to (mostly government) sites in Canada and the USA were you can report phone scams, or learn more about them.
First, look elsewhere on this site for an Article, entitled "Where to Report Phone Crime". (It may appear in the column to your right).
For a more frequently updated list of complaint sites, with links to government web pages, look here:

Message on answering machine from "Steve Martin" who sounded like he was from Mumbai. Said I had to appear before a magistrate or grand jury for unspecified federal criminal offense. Totally bogus. Federal agents and law enforcement agencies don't call criminals asking them to call back. Even the DMV has (800) phone lines. Don't fall for this.
Shakedown message from a "Steve Martin" stating that ignoring his call regarding a Treasury judgement against me would result in immediate arrest. The bozo did not even know who he was calling and simply called me "you." Funny, the Steve Martin I know is a comedian, does not have an accent, and does not run phone scams. His pitch so bad it was hysterical. These clowns don't even know how to run a two-bit scam.
Let the call go to voice mail and the message left was similar to those described in all the above comments...from a man with an Indian accent threatening legal action if I didn't call back. Scam. Caller ID listed the number from Hawthorne, CA. 310-363-7813.
Total scam. The IRS or Treasure NEVER uses the phone, so every call you get from them IS a scam. The scary part was that I could hear and entire call center in the background, with literally dozens of people making these calls and trying to scam people out of their hard-earned money. I called and told them if they ever called me again, I would find them and effing KILL them. Needless to say, they hung up practically before I could get the sentence out of my mouth.
