This is a legit call/phone # -- it is from the social security office. They called me and I did not answer it. They followed up with an email and then I called them after I got the email.
This is a generic outgoing number from a Social Security office in Chicago that is calling to resolve some matter. You'll likely get a letter if you choose not to answer.
I highly doubt this is a Social Security phone number. When you try to trace it, it shows an an unlisted landline in Chicago. Others have reported getting various fraudulent calls from this number. Caller beware.
Someone called me from this number and stated that they were the Social Security Administration. They wanted to discuss an overpayment, and mentioned my daughter's name. I told them to send me something in the mail. She said, "You haven't received anything in the mail?" I said, "No." She said that she would send something by mail. She hung up. I talked to my daughter and said that if they were calling about her, why didn't they mention an overpayment for my son? They almost immediately called back and said, "we made a mistake. It is for [,my son's name]" I repeated that they should send something by mail. She said okay and hung up. Out of curiosity, I called the number back, I got a auto-message that it was the SS Office on Madison st. [no city name mentioned]. I hung up and said out loud, "Madison Street in [my city name]!?! Not with a 312 area code!" Then I called the number back again and the voice ADDED... "Chicago, IL." I was totally outdone!! What?! Is my house bugged or something??!!! How can a voicemail message change up in a couple of minutes!??? It was a totally different message!! I am SOOOoooo glad I told them to send me mail on the issue!
