I actually have the exact same caller heavily accented man who foolishly left his message on my machine "threatening" legal action of some sort. Laughable as I do not owe any taxes of any kind, looks like I will be calling the State police in the a.m. and hopefully they will be able to make the appropriate calls to whomever can trace this call!
A man with foreign accent (India), English name (Dan Bishop) called my home phone (got answer machine) claiming to be from Dept Of Legal Affairs regarding a very important issue, and legal action against me has been started. If I don't call back(or a lawyer)it would be a legal mess for me. Ends with have a blessed day and God Bless. Of course this is a total scam, and I did not call back!
I received a call from this number. A man with a very heavy Indian accent told me a legal action had started against me. He claimed he was from the U.S. Department of Treasury. He said two letters had been sent to me via USPO, and only because I'd never responded, he was making a phone call to inform me that I needed to talk to someone at the Treasury Department to clear up the problem. I've never received any certified mail (or even regular post) from the Treasury Department. I calmly told him I'd speak to my tax accountant about the return in question. He didn't push it or try to scare me. I suspect my calm demeanor told him he wouldn't be able to scare me into providing him with financial information.
I recently received a call from number above. It was a man with a very heavy Indian accent told me that he was calling from the U.S. Department of Treasury, Legal Affairs. He mentioned that his name was William Rogers (He did not sound like W. R. at all!!!). He mentioned a letter they sent a while back and that I did not respond to it. He also mentioned that a legal action had started against me. He insisted for me not to hang up and that he was going to transfer me to a supervisor to clarify issue.
Got on my computer, researched # and read notes above (thank you for posting!).

Received a call from 323-473-5475. Love getting these calls, as I work as a customer service manager and know all the buzz words to have a call escalated.... anyways I flipped it on the caller (man not of American descent) and asked to speak with his supervisor, he asked why and I told him it was because I did not want to speak to him. He was not happy and told me the policy would be at my house in the morning, told him not a problem, I would have breakfast waiting.
Came home to a message on my answering machine from unknown caller. The message was from a man with an Indian accent stating that his name was Allan Glad and he was with the Dept. of Legal Affairs with the US Treasury Dept. And that he was calling regarding an urgent issue. I called back the phone number and he asked me for my phone number to verify me, and started going on and on about how the IRS has started legal actions against me and that if it was best, I could have my attorney contact him. And that it was because I had not responded to letters that the IRS HAD SENT ME. I advised him that I had not recvd any letters from the IRS and that I believed he was running a fraud, and suddenly the line went dead. Guess I was right.
