I received a call from this number. A man with a very heavy Indian accent told me a legal action had started against me. He claimed he was from the U.S. Department of Treasury. He said two letters had been sent to me via USPO, and only because I'd never responded, he was making a phone call to inform me that I needed to talk to someone at the Treasury Department to clear up the problem. I've never received any certified mail (or even regular post) from the Treasury Department. I calmly told him I'd speak to my tax accountant about the return in question. He didn't push it or try to scare me. I suspect my calm demeanor told him he wouldn't be able to scare me into providing him with financial information.
I got a phone mail message on April 13 from a William Rogers purporting to be from the Dept of Legal Affairs of the US Treasury. The voice was deliberate, slow, and clear with an Indian accent. This same person called in December when the message was left and I did not return the call then either. It seems to be the same message. The call back number is 323 473-5475. Looks like they strike around tax day. The content is the same as what others have posted the call is "in regard to a very important issue" ...."action started against your name" ......at the end "good luck".
My Mom got the call. Something about tax evasion, heavy accent, IRS, and caller ID says Los Angeles all of which is consistent most all the comments here. He left his phone # and its hard to believe he can keep his scam in operation for long unless of course he piggybacks off of someone elses phone lines....It would be interesting to lead him on, right into a trap....
