He is still at it, said his name was Ricky. Just received a call with exactly the same issue and exactly the same claim purporting to represent Microsoft Support Services. I dumped his call twice and he even called back a third time. I did advise him that since I would be shut down within 30 minutes and would never again be able to access the internet that he call me back in 60 minutes and we could continue the discussion - surprise, surprise no call back and no internet lifetime block.
This has been carried on every major news network. It's a scam, and a well known one. Your caller is located in Asia. They are faking their caller ID, or they ask you to call a toll-free number. It's a scam to gain access to your computer, or to get you to part with $$$ for non existent problems. Many of these foreign countries could care less about scamming Americans. That's the problem.
Yes a James Downey called and 7 persons besides myself are using my windows licence number and they would fix it. I told him to cancel the number and he said you will never be able to use your computer ever again I said fine cancel it and he hung up. However I got the 347 # from him because I convinced him I would call back. The caller ID number on my phone came from an area code 203.
Supposedly the name of the company is Windows Service Centre. I feel like if that was the case they would be more professional. I spoke to a man and a woman who both had East Indian accents. I remember when I had my first Windows laptop a few years ago, I received a phone call from the same people. Now I am on my second Windows laptop and I continue to receive unwanted phone calls. If you receive a phone call from this number, I recommend to just hang up. Don't believe anything they say. They are scam artists who target people who know little about computers and have been doing it for years.
My father received 3 urgent calls from 1-347-468-9607, Indian sounding man speaking very fast said his Windows system had been hacked by another user and will need to take details otherwise Windows will close down in 30 minutes and he would be unable ot access, fortunately my dad rang me straight away and we quickly recognised a scam but awful to happen to a 92 year old WW2 veteran - these people are bullies and have no respect for people's privacy.
I have the same experience! That exact phone number called us a few minutes ago. The woman's accent sounded East India. She claimed that she was from the USA Microsoft company and that her windows got hacked by another user, and if we didn't do ask she told us to, our windows would shut down in approximately 20 minutes.
