Called to speak to my son who does not live with me. When the male caller was informed that he was not home...he said that he was in legal trouble with the US Treasury and if he did not call ...he would be in a big legal mess. The caller had a strong accent and left a contact person name Jeremy??
Got a call from "Austin Hall" US Treasury, Dept of Legal Affairs for my husband. Told him that he was out of town (mistake). They will be sending an investigator to our home address (had the correct address).
"Austin" has a slight accent. There was a lot of noise in the background. Won't be answering anymore calls. I get lots of these calls on my answering machine. Wish they would lose my number.
Scammer. Reports he's from Legal Affairs at the U.S. Treasury and a case is pending against me. (Completely untrue. I work in a capacity that I would already know if that was the case as my employer would not have hired me after my extensive background check.) This is the well known scam where they try to get you to call back by scaring you into thinking you're going to be in trouble. DO NOT FALL FOR IT.
Received 4 phones calls. I ignored 3 phone calls. Finally answered the 4th. They said their was legal action on me for past taxes. I asked for what. I don't owe anything nor have received messages they claimed that was sent. They transferred me to my case worker they said I owed 4K. I said let me talk to my husband and they hung up on me.
