They made the wrong call when they called me. :-{)
I'm our organization's IT Director and my alarms went off immediately when they said that my computer "is not connecting to Microsoft to download updates."
I asked him who his supervisor was and he gave me the name "Jeff Anderson". Then I tried to narrow it down to which computer he was referring to and he said, "It doesn't say here."
So... You can tell that my computer is not connecting to Microsoft to download updates, but you can't tell me the computer name or anything else specific about the computer?
Then I see the posts here from supposed clients and it is obvious that English is not their first language, but they have names like Adam Smith.
You F'ing morons!!! Someone said it below... If you are going to scam someone, you should at least learn their language properly!!!
Anytime someone calls you and begins to speak to you with general statements about your office equipment and can't give you specifics when you question them, then you should just hang up on them. When I say office equipment I mean everything electronic. Computers, fax machines, copiers, phones, etc... If the wrong person gets the right information, they can scam you hard and you wouldn't know it until you received the bill for the damages.
Got another "blocked" call from them yesterday, from a woman with a Middle Eastern accent. I asked how she knew what was up with my computer, same questions as everyone else. The night before they ran this scam on our local news station but honestly, anyone should know enough that they wouldn't know what is going on with your computer. Last time I said "interesting you should call, my laptop is at Best Buy as we speak". She said she was from Computer Security something or other representing Windows.
Just received a call from a man who said my computer was not receiving Microsoft updates. He wanted me to get on my computer so he could help me" fix" it. The caller ID showed private caller. He sounded foreign but said his name was Steve Anderson, yea right. I told him I was busy but asked for a return phone number. He gave me 347-535-4547. Many red flags that spell scam to me!
Just got the same call today 11/11/2013. It is a scam but the "rep" was very persistant even though i called him out on the scam several times. I just wasted 30 minutes on him i never should have. He also gave me the call back number of 347-535-4547 and he said his name was "Jack Andrews" with a very heavy accept!
