They are in violation of multiple aspects of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act with the statements they made to you and it is doubtful they have any ability to sue you in court. If, or more likely, when they call back keep demanding written proof of the debt and proof they have a legal right to collect that debt in your state sent via US Mail as required by the above law. Do not acknowledge that you owe the debt over the phone. You can also remind them that federal law requires they send you the required proof within 5 days of initial contact. Keep logs of dates and times of calls and the content of the call, it could come in handy later if you decide to pursue action against them for FDCPA violations.
I received the same type of call from this company. However, they called me at an old job that I no longer work at. Called the number and it says the number does not work.
Just got the same exact message. These fraudsters have tried so many ways to scam me over the last couple years. Always ignore it and a couple months later its a new voice (always seems to be a black person with an east coast accent....male or female), differnt company name and different threat. Just ignore this people and try to not let it ruin your day...if there was a legit claim against you, you'd recieve something in the mail in writing. I mean, c'mon...if I can receive junk mail at a new address I just moved to less than a month ago, I'm pretty sure a legit agency/lawfirm/collections company would send me something in writing...i had an ex girlfriend let one of my bills she was in charge of go to collections years ago and believe me, the collection company mailed me stuff right away..these people just are waiting for you to say "OMG, I can't take these calls anymore, here's my bank indo/credit card number.
Just received a call from the same number and same exact message. These people have been harrassing me for months now. I know how to ignore my calls on my cell phone but they call my work place! Is there a law against this? It is pretty embarrassing when you manager transfers the call to you after she has heard what it is all about. I work in the medical field and it does not look good.
