3479807680 just called me in Austin (512 area code) on 4/12/2016 at 10:20 AM. Same deal. Claimed to be IRS, said they had been trying to reach me, said a lawsuit was filed. Clearly criminals. Really unfortunate this type of thing can't be stopped. These guys are just as bad as those phony Windows Support guys,.
Who said it can't? You can't stop them entirely, but you can do your part by not answering unknown numbers in any manner or by a call blocker. No kind of answer, no threats can be delivered, and you'll hear nothing from anyone while angering callers.
I received a call this morning from 213-141-5163, directing me to call 347-980-7680. The recorded message claimed to be from an officer with "Internal Revenue Services", and said the reason for the call was to inform me that a lawsuit had been filed against me. The real IRS doesn't have an "s" at the end of its name. Also, the real IRS never calls and threatens taxpayers with lawsuits. There is a link on the homepage of the real IRS website, under the "News" heading, titled "Don't be Fooled by Tax Scams". If you click on that link, you can find out how to report scam callers. I did so, and hope that it does some good.
I received a call from an UNKNOWN number about an hour ago. I check my voicemail and it was an IRS "officer" (no name) saying they've filed a lawsuit against me. Not the first time I've received this type of call, only this time it came in as UNKNOWN. Do people not have anything better to do with their time?!
