They called and told me that this was the final call and that the IRS was going to sue me. I decided to google the number because I thought it was fraudulent. That's not how the IRS contacts anyone and they're not in WA.
Thank you for posting all these and it is a relief to know I am not alone. When I listened to my voicemail and heard the word "Lawsuit", I panicked. I called them back but got a very heavy-accented Middle Eastern "representative" answer and the background was VERY noisy, like they were outside. I became suspicious and decided to drop the call. I Googled and found all these threads about the scam. Whew!
Recorded female voice (American accent w/o inflection, possibly electronically simulated) states: "This call is officially a final notice from the IRS, Internal Revenue Services. The IRS is filing a lawsuit against you, etc...pls call (360)-200-4621". Despite the official sounding voice presentation, it made no sense. There hadn't been a "pre-final notice". No name, case number, instructions for the return call, or right to an attorney, etc. were mentioned. The # is listed as being in Washington State and did not match any IRS #s w/area code 306. It's clearly not legit and likely to have fraudulent aims.
