Got an automated call from 360-200-4621saying the IRS was filing a lawsuit again me. Got right through to the number and was careful not to give any personal information. A very aggressive sounding man who identified himself as Detective Daniel Martin Badge number IRM: 6161. Told me we had miscalculated our taxes for 5 years (a certified tax preparer does our taxes). He said, under Section 101, an arrest warrant was being issued for my husband, then said they would come to our home and take all items in his name, including our home. Said we could pay $2569.00 immediately which included legal fees and charges. I said the IRS contacts me if, first of all, there was an audit, and if there were a problem, by certified mail. He said he was in Washington, DC, but the area code is Washington State near Seattle. When he transferred me to his supervisor, I told her I didn't understand because we had just spoken with an IRS representative and I asked for the IRS number. The call went dead at that. Also, this detective said if I fought this lawsuit, it would cost over $75,000.00. Everyone was either spanish, middle eastern or asian. Once connected with the supervisor, I could hear this detective speaking to someone else...same thing...audit and a little over $2000.00. The room was very noisy with calls.
Just listened to my messages at home. Caller claimed to be from IRS as well...Filing a law suit as well...Please call 360-200-4621 as well...Blah, blah, blah.....
A woman with a very difficult accent called and left a message saying the IRS was suing me and asked for confirmation about my address. I could not understand her other questions due to her heavy accent and told her so several times. She then hung up on me. I called back---no answer.
Scam!!!
You know it's a scam when they don't even know that the IRS, or Internal Revenue Service, is singular, not plural... They said "Services" in their message. Always do your research before calling a number, and never click through an e-mail that looks "official". Your banks, doctors, and IRS, etc, have your information. There is nothing they need from you through e-mail. Stay alert out there.
We had the same phone call today with the exact same message about the IRS. I am so thankful for this site as I did receive a letter in the mail today from the IRS but it was for our refund thankfully. I am going to call the IRS and report it.
