FAKE IRS SCAM.
Received a recording from this number, saying they were the IRS and they were filing suit, and to call back. I called back from a different number, and an Indian woman answered "Hello, IRS." She then asked what number they had called. She seemed to know that the number I had called from was not in their system. It's as if she was trying to match up the number that they had originally called in order to further their scam.
I believe that this is part of the same scam run by the "card services" people. In the last two weeks, all of the card services telephone reps have been Indian.
They called my mother and left a recording from 360-284-4307. I called them back from a different number and asked them why they were calling my mother and scaring her. The Indian gentleman who answered and said his name was "David Marshall" said that my mother had filed her taxes wrong for the past few years and he was an IRS officer who was going to file a lawsuit against her. I laughed and said that was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard and that I was going to file a lawsuit against THEM. He got really angry and told me not to give him any of my attitude and kept repeating that he was an officer of the IRS (like that was supposed to intimidate me?). Then he asked me how old I was. I kept laughing and said that he confirmed my suspicions that he was a scam and that I was going to hang up on him. He kept telling me "don't you DARE hang up on me!" so I did.
I have been audited before by the IRS and this is NOT how they handle it. They will ALWAYS send everything in writing, and when I did have phone conversations with them, they have been very polite and professional.
I received a message on my phone saying that there was a case against me. I returned the call and the gentleman said that I hadn't paid all of my taxes (which I have!) The gentleman sounded East Indian. He said that the police would come to my house and take my license away and my home and all possessions if I didn't pay. I called his bluff by saying that it was a scam and the IRS would contact me via certified mail if such a claim was true! He hung up the phone.
This is a scam. No need to call back. What a joke. Unfortunately even if you block the number, they keep changing to different ones so expect more. This needs to be stopped.
